somewhere truly interesting to stay in the heart of Melbourne

Above is an article on the wonderful Brooklyn Arts Hotel in Inner-city melbourne from The Sun-Herald April 19, 2009 followed by an inage of a room and the hotel itself.
If you want to be at the heart of things in the bohemian part of Melbourne that is dense with cultural offerings of every kind this is the hotel/home away from home for you. You can walk to fabulous gardens in 10 mins, the CBD in 20 minutes ....and be in a brunswick st, gertrude st or smith st cafe in 5 mins. Art, design, books, fashion, furniture...the area is saturated in all that is original, very clever and/or downright funky. Trams and buses are virtually on the doorstep as well.
Artists will love "St Luke: artist colourmen" which is a store full of art materials to die for in nearby Smith St. Gertrude st has at least 2 fabulous specialist bookshops...one for cooks and one for artisans. In fact artisans are out in force baking bread, creating fabuolous chocolates, shoes, tables, cloth...go explore...its amazing! This part of Melbourne is my old stamping ground. I lived for 5 years not far from this hotel and walked daily for an hour or so of a morning or evening and was always discovering something new. The gardens were there for the days when nature beckoned and spreading a blanket on the grass and reading a book was a treat. There was such an industrious buzz in this precinct and so much to investigate and lots of conversations to be had!
www.brooklyartshotel.com will put you in the picture...or phone Maggie on +61 3 94199328 and tell her you read this on my blog. Maggie is a filmmaker, designer and public artist who generates something very special in any endeavour she takes on!
