Still... as you say... quite unusually strong individuals.

Certainly Davis was making a point to students most likely also from affluent background and neat expectations! Its a great message for people that age... not to think that one's pathway will necessarily be found in standard places and/or hallowed halls! I like that he is telling then to consider virtually no job below them!

Knew what you meant re the word indigenous. I always think better to be in dialogue and stumbling to find the right words than remaining silent, not learning and not contributing to important discussions.

People who pounce on pc issues can sometimes be very lacking in perceiving when they do have an engaged audience. Assumptions are always just that. Petty! Some of the most pc people I've known have also been some of the most hypocritical!

Sophie Munnshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02797068983613314554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3778349612469580118.post-24167137244866557622013-05-06T03:13:20.039+10:002013-05-06T03:13:20.039+10:00I have now read the article and watched the video,...I have now read the article and watched the video, interesting and thought provoking, but for many people a difficult path to take I think. The three examples of people who have taken their own path in such a definitive way are stronger than some of us can be.
I guess I should have used the words indigenous people, its not very pc to use the word primitive but I did not mean it in derogatory way as I am sure you realised. To me belonging to the beginning is no bad thing.Debbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09300029654181323351noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3778349612469580118.post-91352436589577988942013-05-05T23:55:10.595+10:002013-05-05T23:55:10.595+10:00I'm glad you wrote some thoughts here Debbie.
...I'm glad you wrote some thoughts here Debbie.

Interestingly Davis talked of that otherworldliness of the indigenous and although it can seem far more intangible and obscure than what we so-called first world people might be familiar with its not so far fetched that many of us have some intuition of or feeling for.

So yes.. you make sense to me.

I liked that he spoke so clearly of that other sense of life and purpose ... the questioning of what we assume in contemporary life is "the way" ... juxtaposing that with entirely different sensibilities and value systems and reminding us, challenging us of the cost of "our" way...the undeniable fact that our way is not kind to all who walk this path nor does it have meaning for many who walk this path.

ciao,
SSophie Munnshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02797068983613314554noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3778349612469580118.post-72580183283051649662013-05-05T18:50:49.466+10:002013-05-05T18:50:49.466+10:00Hi, I haven't had time to read all of this, or...Hi, I haven't had time to read all of this, or watch the video, yet but I will.
I am fascinated by the idea of the ethnosphere, its sort of what I have always believed in, a force similar to the idea in Star Wars of something that you can reach into and use when needed. I think primitive people are much closer to this state of oneness with the world, hence ideas like the dreaming which would appear to relate to some kind of collective unconsious.
I don't know whether this makes sense or whether it sounds a but airy fairy, its a difficult thing to put into words but this guy seems to have done just that.Debbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09300029654181323351noreply@blogger.com
